Dunkin’s New Bacon Topped Avocado Toast

Every day I walk to and from work and I take the exact same route each time. It’s as exciting of a morning commute that it can be. Downtown Chicago looks a lot different these days. There are only the same seven or so people commuting with me. Most of the stores are either closed temporarily or completely emptied out. There’s just not a lot going on in my life or in the local storefront economy. One store that has stood the test of time though has been the Dunkin Donuts on Wacker Drive. Good for them!

When their new avocado toast came out, I definitely noticed-the poster out front had a piece of bread with some unsettlingly smooth avocado spread. It was the talk at work for maybe 20 minutes. “Hey have you heard that Dunkin has avocado toast now?” “No, I haven’t. That doesn’t sound good!” they said. From reading a few reviews, it’s a pretty average food product at best. I thought that was going to be the last of it, but no. They now added bacon to it.

To me, a bacon-topped avocado toast from Dunkin just sounds like someone asked a computer what millennials would like and that’s the result that came out. The bacon craze of the early 2010’s has never really left food culture and avocado toast is the typical insult against people ten years older than me who can’t yet afford to buy a house.
